Kelly Walker

Nurse Practioner

BSN, MS, ACNP, CFMP

Welcome! My name is Kelly, and I am a certified nurse practitioner with over twenty years of experience in conventional medicine, primarily in Acute Care and Cardiology. I started with my BSN graduated at Northeastern University in Boston MA, then returned for my Masters in Science and Acute Care/Critical Care nurse practitioner certification.

My passion is to heal, to support and empower women in achieving their optimal health. A health scare of my own led me to heal myself through integrative medicine, with natural remedies and lifestyle changes. I wanted to teach this to others, seeing many of my patients suffering from chronic symptoms and illnesses. Therefore I completed my certificate in functional medicine through Functional Medicine University with additional training at The Institute for Functional Medicine and The School of Applied Functional Medicine.

The functional medicine approach is whole systems management, not just treating symptoms for temporary relief but finding the root cause of what is making you feel not your best self. Functional medicine shows us the true mind-body connection that exists. It’s not plausible to treat one system without affecting all the others. Some of my specialties include nutrition medicine, weight management, gut dysfunction, metabolic syndrome and hormone imbalance. I focus on an integrative approach, in working together with your primary health team, creating a personalized whole-being approach for your physical and emotional health!

 FAQ

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a whole-body system and biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease. It is a patient-centered approach to chronic disease or symptoms management. It seeks to answer the question “ Why do I not feel well? “ Through a comprehensive health history and advanced diagnostic testing, I am able to uncover often overlooked factors contributing to your health.

Once we find out the objective data I customize a clinical functional medicine program, tailored to your needs, including customized nutrition and lifestyle changes tailored to your unique physiology

Do you take Insurance?

Insurance may cover some testing or services but not all. This   program is considered above the standard of care or “elective” as far as the Insurance companies are concerned. My passion is to make sure Functional Medicine is affordable and accessible to everyone!

What should I expect from an appointment?

Initial appointments or consultations with me will be 90-120 minutes. I will email out your forms prior yo your appointment then we review in detail your comprehensive health history. My holistic approach to health includes not only looking at your physical symptoms but also your mental and emotional health, lifestyle choices and habits.

Follow up appointments are generally 60 minutes long and be scheduled based on your needs ( ie follow up symptoms, testing).

Do you prescribe medications?

I can prescribe medications but in this practice, I will not.  Your prescribing medical provider will manage all medications. I will focus on natural, noninvasive methods such as nutritional therapy, herbs, supplements, stress management techniques and lifestyle changes to address the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal function and health.
